Product Details

Blue Jelly Shrimp are a captivating, translucent variety of Neocaridina davidi, prized for their striking blue colouration and active, algae-grazing behaviour. They are remarkably hardy and adaptable, making them an excellent choice for both beginners starting their first shrimp colony and experienced aquarists looking to add a pop of colour to a planted tank.

🐟 Blue Jelly Shrimp Care Tips

✅ Tank Requirements

Tank Size: Minimum 20 litres for a small colony; larger tanks provide better stability.
Group Size: Keep in groups of 10 or more; they feel significantly safer and display more natural behaviour in colonies.
Substrate: Inert gravel or specialized shrimp soil; darker substrates beautifully contrast their blue hue.
Filtration: Gentle filtration (sponge filters are ideal) to prevent tiny shrimplets from being sucked into the intake.

🌡️ Water Parameters

Temperature: 18–26°C (64–79°F)
pH: 6.5–7.5
Hardness: 6–12 dGH
TDS: 150–250 ppm

🍽️ Diet

Omnivore: Feed high-quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and let them graze on natural biofilm.
• Supplement with blanched vegetables (like spinach or zucchini) and mineral-rich foods for growth and colour.

🧼 Tank Maintenance

• Perform weekly water changes (10–15%) using dechlorinated, temperature-matched water.
• Avoid over-cleaning; preserve biofilm and beneficial bacteria which shrimp rely on for grazing.

🤝 Tank Mates

Peaceful; best kept with other non-aggressive species such as small nano fish, snails, and other Neocaridina varieties.
• Avoid large, predatory fish that may view these shrimp as a snack.

🍀 Colour & Health Enhancement

Lighting: Moderate lighting in a planted tank helps showcase their translucent blue colouration.
Diet: A mineral-rich, varied diet supports healthy molting and vibrant colour:

  • High-quality spirulina-based pellets
  • Occasional protein foods for growth and breeding
  • Calcium-rich foods to support strong molts
