🐟 Pygmy Cory Care Tips

✅ Tank Requirements

Tank Size: 20 litres for a small colony, but 30L+ is recommended for better stability and larger groups.
Group Size: Keep in groups of 6 or more; they thrive and display natural behaviours in larger schools.
Substrate: Fine sand or smooth, small gravel is crucial to protect their delicate barbels as they forage.
Filtration: Gentle filtration (e.g., sponge filter or baffled hang-on-back) is best; avoid strong currents.

🌡️ Water Parameters

Temperature: 22–26°C (72–79°F)
pH: 6.0–7.5
Hardness: 2–15 dGH
TDS: 50–250 ppm

🍽️ Diet

Omnivores/Detritivores: Feed high-quality sinking micro-pellets, crushed flakes, and small sinking wafers.
• Supplement with live or frozen foods like daphnia, micro-worms, or baby brine shrimp for growth and colour.

🧼 Tank Maintenance

• Perform weekly water changes (10–15%) using dechlorinated, temperature-matched water.
• Ensure the substrate is kept clean, especially in their foraging areas, but avoid over-cleaning to preserve beneficial bacteria.

🤝 Tank Mates

Very peaceful; best kept with other small, non-aggressive species such as other nano fish (e.g., small tetras, rasboras), dwarf shrimp, and snails.
• Avoid larger, aggressive, or fin-nipping fish that could stress or prey on Pygmy Cories.

🍀 Colour & Health Enhancement

Lighting: Moderate lighting in a well-planted tank can help bring out their natural subtle sheen and provide hiding spots.
Diet: A mineral-rich, varied diet supports overall health and vitality:

  • High-quality sinking pellets and micro-foods
  • Occasional live or frozen foods (e.g., daphnia, brine shrimp) for protein and vitality
  • Access to biofilm and micro-organisms in a mature tank
